2009 European Canoe Slalom Championships
Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, Great Britain 28th - 31st May 2009

The official opening ceremony of the 2009 European Championships took place at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham at 6pm.

There was a big turn out and the crowd were seated in the spectator chairs whilst they were entertained by paddlers crossing the regatta lake carrying flags from the 25 nations competing.

The team of jet skiiers then produced a wonderful acrobatic display, spraying up water and making the crowd squeal in delight.

There were then opening remarks by Andy Maddock of the World Class Programmes, Albert Woods, President of the European Canoe Association and a representative of Nottinghamshire County Council.

The opening ceremony, that lasted no more than thirty minutes and appeared to be enjoyed by all, including the British athletes who took time out before racing to enjoy the entertaining atmosphere.

Stanton June 13-14th

Wow what a weekend!! It was great to see so many people. When you are a bunch of show offs like us, it’s so much more fun when there's a good crowd.

The 550 challenge was a great success, with over 40 riders taking part. I must say that I had never ridden one of these beasts before, but wow what great fun, I really can see why the sport was so popular back in the late 80s.
